Hogwash: -- I do have a desire to go to Church, but, there are so many Churches and denominations, I don't have a clue on which one to attend.
TRUTH: -- Denominations are not the most important consideration. Find yourself a Bible Preaching, Bible Believing Church where Christians meet together as a spiritual body to worship "The Living and True GOD", "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another..."*Heb10:25 Where the Faithful exposition of The Word of GOD and the True Gospel of CHRIST is preached, "...which are able to make thee wise unto Salvation through Faith which is in CHRIST JESUS."*IITim3:15 Not just a place to go get your ears "tickled" with the "social gospel" and just "going through the motions of worship". Become actively involved in the ministry, "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."*Jas1:22 Choose a Church Fellowship which endeavors to "practice what they preach" in their daily living, where love abounds, and there is a warm friendly spirit where you will feel welcomed, and are eager to win lost souls for CHRIST! "As our Lord says, "This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you."*Jn15:12
Hogwash: -- I want to make sure I get on the right track, are there any places I should definitely avoid? How can I be discerning about these things?
TRUTH: -- Avoid false cults or sects!!! Why? Because, for one thing, they teach "Salvation by works", not Salvation by Grace through faith in Christ alone as our Lord GOD teaches us in His Word The Bible! They can be identified by their emphasizing of rites and rituals, commands and restrictions and ethical principles to follow, then teach that if a man or woman does all these things, they will be saved, "Having a form of Godliness, but denying The Power thereof; from such turn away."*IITim3:5 Cults substitute their own ideas, mis-interpreting the Scriptures for the Truth which GOD has given us, sometimes preaching some Christian Truth, mixed with error, "Speaking lies in hypocrisy; as having their conscience seared with a hot iron."*ITim4:2 Also avoid those that worship another god or idols or icons or other person other than our Almighty GOD The Father, GOD The Son, GOD The Holy Spirit. Pray and seek the Lord about this matter, and He will give you His guidance.
